A number of Newcastle United fans have praised Fabian Schar for his “incredible” display at Leeds United on Saturday.

The Magpies finally have their second league win of the season on board and are just one point from safety.

Newcastle worked hard for their 1-0 victory at Elland Road, sealed by Jonjo Shelvey’s second-half free-kick.

Both the Magpies and the Whites played out an energetic and tempestuous game.

However, neither could make the most of their first-half chances.

Midway through the second half, Diego Llorente hauled Javier Manquillo down as the sub broke into the box.

Newcastle won a free kick on the edge of the box, and Shelvey whipped in a low, curling effort.

Illan Meslier let the Newcastle man’s strike bounce over his outstretched arm and into the back of the net.

Schar, who joined the Magpies for a reported £3million in 2018, was immense throughout.

He made a superb block to deny a goalbound Jack Harrison shot from point-blank range.

Schar blocked two shots, made two interceptions, and cleared nine balls.

In addition, he showed real leadership skills in tending to any Newcastle players who hit the deck late on.

Newcastle fans loved what they saw from Schar, some even saying it was his best game in black-and-white:
