Clarence Seedorf noticed what Virgil van Dijk did after Liverpool conceded against AC Milan

Virgil van Dijk got his name on the scoresheet as Liverpool came from behind to down AC Milan 3-1 at the San Siro.

The Reds started on the back foot and were up against the cosh as Christian Pulisic broke the deadlock with a fantastic close-range strike.

However, Liverpool turned things around before the interval through headed goals from Ibrahima Konate and Van Dijk, with Dominik Szoboszlai adding gloss to the scoreline in the second half to seal an important win.

While the scoreline suggests it turned out to be a bit of a routine win for the Reds, it looked like they could be heading towards successive defeats after Pulisic’s goal.

And Clarence Seedorf believes Van Dijk played a big role in triggering Liverpool’s comeback aside from his goal.

The Dutchman was seen rallying his teammates together after the opening goal as he urged them to stick to their guns despite the early setback.

Speaking after the game, Seedorf lauded his compatriot’s performance and singled out his leadership qualities for special praise.

“I am really proud of how you are performing,” said Seedorf on Amazon Prime Video (10:23 PM, Sept 17).

“I saw great leadership after that goal that you conceded. Showed everybody to stay calm, stay focused.”

Van Dijk’s stats vs AC Milan

The towering Dutchman scored the goal that put Liverpool ahead and earned himself a Sofascore rating of 7.7 for his performance against AC Milan.

Van Dijk made two clearances, one block and won four aerial duels while also completing six long balls.

He also had 80 touches of the ball and finished the game with an impressive pass percentage of 89% (65/73 passes completed) as he completed another full ninety minutes under Arne Slot.

Van Dijk recently suggested that he wants to remain at Liverpool but has yet to put pen to paper on a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Sources close to Slot believe the Dutchman has been blown away by Van Dijk in training, suggesting that he’s an indispensable member of the team.

Liverpool must do everything it takes to renew his contract and can’t afford to lose a player like him, let alone for free.
