Clarence Seedorf claims Liverpool have a player just like Karim Benzema who should start every single game

Clarence Seedorf spoke about Roberto Firmino after Liverpool lost 4-1 to Napoli last night, comparing him to Karim Benzema.

It was a really bad night for Jurgen Klopp’s men in Italy as they were outplayed in the first half and fortunate that Victor Osimhen missed a penalty or it could have been even worse.

Firmino did actually start the game but faces increased competition for his place this season from Darwin Nunez, and some critics have said he is going off the boil.

But Seedorf told Prime Video during the coverage of the game that he should start every single game for Liverpool.

Seedorf compares Firmino to Benzema

He said:  “Diego Maradona immediately makes you understand that here you can not come for a walk and I think the Liverpool players have already understood it.

“I would always put Firmino in the team. In recent years Liverpool did well because he is a bit like Benzema at Real Madrid.

“He knows how to play a little deeper and goes on the wings.

“He is a nine who can read what the team needs and Klopp will focus a lot on him this season, despite the arrival of Nunez”.

There has been plenty of talk about a new frontline at Liverpool, with Nunez coming in to add to the January arrival of Luis Diaz.

Liverpool had Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino coming to the end of their contracts at the same time and the solution was to extend one contract, sell one, and seemingly phase Firmino out.

That may well still happen, but Seedorf clearly still expects a big season from the Brazilian, as Liverpool look to improve on their patchy early season form.
