RB Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund has delivered a possible transfer blow to Wolverhampton Wanderers by insisting Hwang Hee-chan will not be sold this month.

The Black Country club have been linked with a move in recent weeks for the South Korea international (Telegraph), having been one of the stars of the show for the Austrian champions this season.

Versatile Hwang has scored nine goals and made 14 assists in 22 appearances in all competitions, and his stock has been rising.

The 23-year-old attacker has certainly drawn attention to himself, but Wolves may have to look elsewhere for reinforcements given Freund’s latest comments.

He told Salzburger Nachrichten: “Hwang is not for sale in this transfer period.

“We won’t let him go for €40 million (£34 million) either. We won’t be negotiating with any club.”

That may come as a disappointment to Nuno Espirito Santo, who has said he is keen to make signings this month.

TBR’s view – Salzburg stance understandable

The club have already lost two key players in Takumi Minamino to Liverpool and Erling Haaland to Borussia Dortmund.

In order to stay on track, Salzburg can’t afford to let Hwang go – at the moment the club top the Austrian Bundesliga and still haven’t lost a game, but LASK are only two points behind.
