Dean Smith has turned things around for Aston Villa, who are now closing in on the play-offs.

Last night’s 3-0 away win against Middlesbrough put Aston Villa within three points of the play-off zone.

It came after the dramatic 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest in midweek.

And prior to that, Aston Villa won three out of three in the league, including impressive wins over Derby County and arch rivals Birmingham City.

Smith is a boyhood Aston Villa fan and his passion is refreshing for the supporters, who grew frustrated with Steve Bruce at the helm.

After moving from Brentford, Smith has implemented his easy-on-the-eye style of football and the results are now coming too.

In Tammy Abraham, he has given confidence to a top striker and the 21-year-old now has 11 goals for the season.

And he has reinvented some players, such as Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi, Yannick Bolasie and Axel Tuanzebe – all of whom struggled under Bruce.
