Just a matter of weeks ago, Ryan Christie was a talented but bit-part player with just months remaining on his contract at Celtic.
In a side that was not doing a very good job of defending its title, Christie was perhaps seen as somebody not quite up to standard to make a difference, but now the landscape has changed.
Injuries have given Christie a chance to impress Brendan Rodgers and he has grabbed it with both hands.
Defeat to Hearts in the Betfred Cup semi-final would have been a hammer blow to Celtic, both psychologically and on-pitch, but Christie’s half-time introduction changed the game.
That second half proved to be a turnaround in the Bhoys’ season as they followed it up with two 5-0 wins, the seconf of which was a second defeat of Hearts within a matter of days.
Now, Christie looks set to be rewarded for spearheading that improvement in fortunes with a brand-new contract, according to the Scottish Sun.
The midfielder has certainly earned his improved terms. The gauntlet was thrown down and he picked it up emphatically, showing leadership and quality that was lacking in the early part of the season.
He has fought to stay at Celtic, and now the club must repay that with the deal he deserves.
