Fiorentina talent Christian Koffi has explained why he decided not to join Liverpool back in 2018.
The former Monaco talent was reportedly on Liverpool’s radar that summer. L’Equipe reported that the flying winger was set to join Liverpool that summer, with a deal seemingly agreed between the club and player. They even suggested Koffi was seen as a future Sadio Mane-like player for the Liverpool first-team.
But the deal never happened.

Instead, Koffi signed for Italian side Fiorentina when his contract at Monaco expired that June.
Now, speaking to Goal, Koffi has admitted he did not feel ready to make the move to Liverpool at that time and was happy with his decision to head to Italy.
“Everything was decided a little bit at the last moment. I was very flattered by the interest of Liverpool, but I chose Fiorentina for my progress.
“Liverpool is more than a big club and I was not ready at this time, especially in 2018. Liverpool’s team was very good. It was not the good timing, it’s the truth.”
So far, Liverpool have not been given any reason to feel like they missed out. Koffi has largely played for Fiorentina’s ‘Primavera’ side, along with former Liverpool talent Bobby Duncan, since heading to Florence.
This season, he has scored five goals and provided four assists for the youth team, and captained them on occasions.
But he has not yet featured for the first-team, with Fiorentina seemingly taking their time on giving him that chance.
Liverpool will no doubt be continuing to track the 19-year-old but for now, it seems they are not missing out.
