Christian Fuchs pays tribute to Kelechi Iheanacho after Leicester’s EFL Cup win

Leicester City swept aside League One outfit Burton Albion on the road last night 3-1 to make it into the last eight of the EFL Cup.

The Brewers made it to the semi-finals of last season’s competition but the Foxes put paid to their chances of a repeat thanks to goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison.

Leicester caught the eye with a 9-0 thumping of Southampton and the challenge for them was to follow it up and they did exactly that on a night which could have become tricky.

And one of the players brought into the side, Christian Fuchs, was keen to pay tribute to Iheanacho, who took a rare chance to deputise for Jamie Vardy.

It seems as if many Leicester fans have lost patience with Iheanacho, whose career has stalled majorly since breaking onto the scene with Manchester City.

Back then, he was a clinical finisher with the world at his feet – being compared to Marcus Rashford – and the move to the King Power Stadium was meant to see him get the gametime needed to develop.

Instead, Vardy has gone from strength to strength, limiting his opportunities to play and all the Nigerian can do is keep on scoring when he gets the odd game.

Vardy is on fire right now but a major concern for Leicester must be what will happen if he is ruled out for any period of time – Iheanacho is best placed to allay those fears if he can rediscover the form he showed early in his career.
