Tottenham Hotspur have finally completed the signing of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton after the Dane entered the final year of his contract – and Christian Eriksen has sent a message to Spurs on Instagram.
Hojbjerg, 25, has been the subject of interest from both Spurs and Everton but the former Bayern Munich man had his heart set on Spurs. He has been after a move to Spurs for some time, even being stripped of the Saints captaincy.
He becomes Tottenham’s first senior signing of the summer window, adding competition to the likes of Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele in the defensive-midfield area of Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side.
Hojbjerg posted on Instagram after it was confirmed he had signed a five-year deal with Spurs and would wear the number five shirt, previously vacated by Jan Vertonghen. He underlined his delight at moving to Tottenham.
Hojbjerg is a teammate of Eriksen’s at national team level, with the duo combining in the middle of the park for Denmark. Despite only just turning 25, he has 33 caps for his country.
Reacting to Hojbjerg’s post, Inter Milan midfielder and former Spurs favourite Eriksen sent a message to Tottenham – urging the north London club to look after their newest addition. Kyle Walker-Peters has gone the other way.
