Christian Eriksen overcomes dead leg injury and trains before Red Star Belgrade clash

Christian Eriksen has been pictured training with the Tottenham Hotspur first-team ahead of the clash with Red Star Belgrade.

Pictures taken from Tottenham’s latest training session show that Eriksen is back in contention. The Denmark midfielder missed last weekend’s draw with Watford with a dead leg.

However, it appears he has recovered from the knock he picked up on international duty. Eriksen has been out of form this season but his return gives Mauricio Pochettino an extra option in the midfield.

Giovani Lo Celso is also back in training so Pochettino has two extra creative midfielders to pick from. The Argentine midfielder was brought in with a view to becoming a long-term Eriksen replacement. If both are fit, it will be interesting to see who Pochettino selects tonight.

Spurs take on Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League this evening. After picking up just one point from their opening two games (and losing 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich), this game has suddenly become very important.

TBR’s view

Tottenham’s attacking play has suffered this season as a result of Eriksen’s form. The 27-year-old was unable to get his desired move in the summer and he is running down his contract at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This season, his performances have dipped significantly and he looks a shadow of his former self. While an exit looks inevitable – either in January or next summer – Spurs fans will be hoping Eriksen can lift them out of their slump before he goes.
