Newcastle United have been rocked by an injury update on winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
According to Sky Sports, the French maverick will struggle to take to the field again this year having sustained a hamstring injury against Southampton at the weekend.
Saint-Maximin was doubtful for the game having hurt his ankle against Sheffield United in midweek, but started against the Saints at St. James’ Park.

That held up fine, but he 22-year-old hobbled off in injury time with a hamstring issue, and the summer signing from Nice could now miss as many as six matches.
It’s a bitter blow for Saint-Maximin, who has quickly established himself as fans’ favourite at St. James’.
With him out of the picture, it almost certainly presents Ghana international Christian Atsu with a chance to shine, but will he be able to take it?
TBR’s view – ASM popularity gives Atsu uphill task
Atsu is the natural replacement for Saint-Maximin, and he’ll have to bring his A-game.

The fans have grown to really appreciate Saint-Maximin for his flamboyance and flair.
Where the football hasn’t been so great in parts, many fans have been able to take heart from the fact Saint-Maximin has been on the pitch, because he is the bright spark that can make things happen.
Magpies supporters will no doubt get behind Atsu, but any sub-par performances will quickly have the Geordie faithful longing for their master dribbler.
