Christian Atsu could be finished at Newcastle following Ryan Fraser arrival

Newcastle United officially announced the signing of Ryan Fraser on Monday.

The Magpies followed up the signing of striker Callum Wilson with his former Bournemouth winger, who has arrived on a free after running down his contract with the Cherries.

Fraser has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at St. James’ Park, and is seen by many as a shrewd addition.

His arrival will shake things up for Newcastle, and hopefully the Scotland international will be able to show his creativity and improve the productivity of the attacking players.

But one man who might struggle from here is one Christian Atsu.

The Ghana international made just 24 appearances last term, with many of those coming from the bench.

One does wonder if Fraser’s arrival might just signal the beginning of the end for Atsu at Newcastle.

Things were difficult for Atsu before in terms of getting regular minutes, but they’re a damn sight tougher now Fraser is on the scene.

The livewire is undoubtedly going to go straight into Steve Bruce’s starting XI, and that would leave little opportunity for £30,000-a-week Atsu (Spotrac), who also has Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Matt Ritchie for competition.

Surely, given Atsu’s disappointing stats of just eight goals and 10 assists in 120 games for the club, the player will now do well to remain at the club beyond this window.
