Sheffield United manager Chris Wilders says he isn’t worried about losing players next month, after recent speculation linked John Egan with a move to Everton.
According to The Mirror, the Toffees are keen on a move for the Republic of Ireland international, who has been one of the Blades’ best performers this season.
Egan has played 17 out of 18 Premier League games so far, and has caught the eye with some superb performances at the back.
He has undoubtedly been key in United’s unlikely rise to fifth in the table.
If fans were nervous about potentially losing him next month, Wilder’s latest comments would suggest Everton will have a tough time poaching him.
He said (Sheffield Star): “I’m not worried, about people looking at our players. It’s part and parcel of the division, it’s something you have to handle. They are all under contract.
“I want to drive the club forward and make that next step.
“Lots of things have to happen for a deal to come off but I’m sure the players are happy to be here, you can see that at the end of games. I’d never want to keep an unhappy player here and, if there was, then we’d look to protect the football club.”
TBR’s view – Everton may have to look elsewhere
It sounds as though United won’t be allowing the superb Egan to depart in January, which is absolutely no surprise.
Everton can make an approach but realistically it is hard to see the player wanting to move while things are going so well right now.
