Chris Wilder backs Leeds to do even better at Elland Road with fans back inside

Former Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, believes Leeds will do even better this season, thanks to the return of fans to Elland Road.

Wilder, 53, is still looking for a new job after leaving the Blades towards the back end of last season. He left his boyhood club under a cloud, having apparently fallen out with owner, Prince Abdullah.

But Wilder is on the lookout for a fresh challenge, and has been speaking in an interview for the first time since his Blades departure.

And while he made admissions about wanting to get back into the game, he also took time out to comment on Leeds United ahead of the new season.

“I think a few teams got away with it last year, not playing at a packed Elland Road. Because I know we’ve had a couple of positive results there and I know how difficult it is to get a result and how passionate they are and the backing that they gave their players,” Wilder told Sky Sports. Improvement and Europe possible?

Leeds mirrored Wilder’s first season in the Premier League last term, with Marcelo Bielsa leading them to ninth in the table. The Whites lost six of their 19 home games last term, winning eight, and drawing five.

If Leeds could somehow improve that home form, then they might just sneak into the European spots. The finished just three points off Spurs in seventh last term, showing just how close they came.

Wilder’s prediction, then, could well see the Whites surprise people once again with a rocking Elland Road behind them.
