Southampton sit fourth in the table at the moment and former England midfielder Chris Waddle appears to be being proven right in one of his pre-season predictions.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has got his Saints side playing some brilliant football and even with an injury to Danny Ings taking the shine off things, it’s been a tremendous start to the campaign.

Just over a year on from losing 9-0 to Leicester City, the turnaround under the Austrian is quite superb. However, it’s not something that seems to have caught everyone off guard, as former England and Spurs midfielder, Chris Waddle, called in pre-season.
“If they can get off to a flyer, Southampton could be the surprise package. I don’t see them getting into the top four but I have watched them a lot and they will upset a few teams”, Waddle told the BBC in his pre-season predictions.
It certainly looks like the Saints could be in the mix as things stand. And in a Premier League season like no other, there is no reason why Hasenhuttl’s men cannot make a splash.
Flying and a joy to watch, Europe could be on the cards – TBR View
It’s early days but all the signs in the Southampton team point to a team being capable of challenging for the European spots.

Obviously, getting Danny Ings back will be a big deal but he’ll hopefully not be out for too long. And with Ings leading the line, the Sky looks the limit for the Saints.
It would be a great story and one that Waddle can smile about for now at least.
