Celtic fans have had a doubly good day today with the news one of their top players has signed a new deal and a win over St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

James Forrest signed a new deal to keep him at Parkhead until 2023. There had been murmurings throughout the week that a deal was set to be announced and now Celtic fans can feel confident about one of their own staying in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

The Scotland international went on to celebrate the new deal in perfect fashion. Forrest scored in the 2-0 win over St Mirren, netting the second.

It was a moment that was quickly appreciated by BT Sport pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton. His message certainly summed up how most Celtic fans would have felt about the moment.

TBR’s View

Forrest’s loyalty to Celtic is fantastic to see. The 28-year-old has been at the club since 2003 and in recent years has blossomed into one of the club’s best players.

His loyalty has been unwavering, even if it did look at one point like Ronny Deila’s presence would see Forrest leaving Parkhead.

Celtic fans, including Sutton, will now hope to see plenty more goalscoring performances over the next few years.
