Chris Sutton thinks £40m Tottenham player is getting back to his best now

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison is starting to get back to his best following his return from injury.

This is according to Chris Sutton, who spoke about the Spurs star on BBC Sport as he previewed the Lilywhites’ next game.

Maddison is now back in action after nearly three months out with an ankle injury he suffered in that chaotic defeat to Chelsea in November.

The £40million man came off the bench in the FA Cup loss to Manchester City before starting against Brentford and Everton in the Premier League.

Maddison has understandably been a little rusty since returning as he gets back into the swing of things following his lengthy lay-off.

Sutton believes the England international is finding rhythm with each passing game and suggested he’d be one to watch against Brighton on Saturday.

As well as Maddison, the BBC Sport pundit also name-dropped Son Heung-min and Richarlison as players who could play a big role in the match.

“Son Heung-min is back, or at least he was due to train with Tottenham on Thursday after South Korea’s Asian Cup exit,” wrote Sutton. “If he plays in this game, it will be a huge lift for Spurs.

“Richarlison cannot stop scoring and James Maddison is just starting to find some rhythm with Tottenham too.”

James Maddison likely to start for Tottenham against Brighton

Tottenham host Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, hoping to seal a fifth successive home victory and bounce back from their disappointing result last time out.

Spurs twice failed to hang on to a lead in their 2-2 draw at Everton last weekend, while the Seagulls ran out 4-2 winners over M23 derby foes Crystal Palace.

Maddison is likely to be in the starting XI once again and hopefully we’ll see him back to his scintillating best. At the start of the season, he was unplayable, so let’s hope that’s the case on Saturday.
