Chris Sutton tells Tottenham to drop Hugo Lloris after NLD howler

Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris has been in the news a lot over the last few days after his error cost Spurs in the North London Derby.

The £13 million (Guardian) Frenchman has been questioned time and again over the last few years. He is incredible on his day, but he does have an error in him, and that was evident once again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Sutton thinks he should be dropped.

Chris Sutton wants Hugo Lloris dropped after his error for Tottenham in NLD

In the North London Derby on Sunday, Arsenal were by far the better team.

The Gunners blew Spurs out of the water in the first half, while they just managed the game really well after the break. Tottenham had their chances, but Aaron Ramsdale stepped up to save the day.

The same, however, cannot be said about the man at the other end of the pitch.

Lloris’ carelessness put Spurs on the back foot early on in the game when he almost got caught with the ball at his feet. A few moments later, he made a meal out of Bukayo Saka’s deflected cross, and that set Arsenal on their way,

Tottenham are 14 points behind the Gunners now, and things have to change if they will close the gap. Sutton thinks everyone needs to step up but has urged Spurs to drop Lloris.

He wrote in his column in The Daily Mail: “I know you are only doing what your manager tells you but I want to see more intent from all of you, Harry Kane included.

“And Hugo Lloris, you’re dropped, one mistake too many. Fraser Forster, grab your gloves.”

An argument can be made that Lloris deserves to be dropped.

The mistake in the derby on Sunday was not his first one, and it definitely won’t be his last. Fraser Forster can’t be any worse, can he?

However, Lloris’ experience and leadership have been the key reason why every one of his managers over the years have stuck by him, and we expect Antonio Conte to do the same.

It will be interesting to see what will happen if Lloris makes another mistake in the coming weeks.
