Celtic have been crowned 2019-20 Scottish Premiership champions after the SPFL chose to end the season as the table currently stands – which has prompted reaction from Chris Sutton, Stephen Crainey and others on Twitter.

The decision was made after a board meeting on Monday morning, following a decision by the 12 top-tier clubs which agreed that continuing the current season was purely unfeasable. It sees Celtic awarded their ninth consecutive league title.

Celtic were 13 points ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers and although the two sides faced eachother twice before the end of the campaign and Steven Gerrard’s men had a game in hand – it was always going to be a tall order for the Gers to get back.

The average points per game system has been used to determine the final places, with the only change being made to the table seeing St. Johnstone leapfrog Hibernian into the top half of the table, in sixth place.

However, Hearts have now been relegated from the Scottish Premiership but Ann Budge has been given the chance to work on league reconstruction – which may save Hearts from playing Championship football next season.

Upon hearing the news that Celtic had reached a whopping nine consecutive titles, Celtic icons Sutton, Crainey, John Hartson and plenty more reacted on Twitter.
