Chris Sutton slams Sam Allardyce over claims made about Celtic and Rangers

Chris Sutton has blasted Sam Allardyce on Twitter after the former England manager claimed anyone could win the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, before stating Rangers would overthrow Celtic as champions of Scotland’s top tier.

Celtic have won the last eight Scottish Premiership titles and are looking to reach 10 in a row. But Steven Gerrard’s side are keeping pace with Neil Lennon’s men.

Both sides won again on the weekend, Celtic beating Livingston 4-0 at Parkhead and Rangers grinding out a 3-1 win over Hamilton away from home – thanks to a Ryan Kent brace. Both sides are on equal points, though Celtic lead on goal difference.

Allardyce told TalkSPORT – as quoted by the Record – as saying: “We can all go to Celtic and win trophies. “It will be Rangers soon the way they are going under Steven Gerrard.” Celtic icon Sutton responded, mocking Allardyce over his style of football.

TBR’s view – Allardyce’s claim is short-sighted and lacking in knowledge

Brendan Rodgers went to Celtic in the summer of 2016 and won everything, but that is not because it was easy. To handle the pressure and expectation of winning everything at Celtic is difficult, something which many have struggled with.

Ronny Deila struggled, as did Tony Mowbray. So for Allardyce to claim that winning the league with Celtic is something anyone could do, is wrong. Rodgers did so, because he is an excellent manager and is proving that at Leicester City.
