Chris Sutton singled out Tanguy Ndombele for criticism after Tottenham’s defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last night.
Spurs crashed out of the Europa League following a shock 3-2 aggregate defeat against Croatian champions Dinamo.
The north London club threw away their two-goal lead from the first leg with a crushing 3-0 loss on Thursday night.
Mislav Orsic took the game to extra time after his two second-half goals to level the tie, before he sealed a brilliant hat-trick in the 106th minute, and put his side into the Europa League quarter-finals.
There were huge question marks over the Spurs team though for the winning goal, albeit it came from a brilliant piece of individual skill.
Orsic weaved his way through several tired Spurs players, including 24-year-old central midfielder Ndombele.
Pundit Sutton was left animated over the fact that the Spurs midfielder didn’t get closer to at least try prevent the winning goal.
“How does he get through three Spurs defenders there? Ndombele doesn’t smell the danger,” Sutton told BT Sport 2 (10:45pm, 18 March).
“I have to say it’s a brilliant finish, it’s a wonderful hat-trick. But it is just a lack of application. Ndombele is a brilliant footballer, but get yourself across that’s your job.”

TBR’s View:
Yes, Ndombele should have done much more to try stop a stunning Orsic hat-trick. But you could lie the blame at several players during that move that didn’t do enough.
It summarised the entire evening for them that passage of play, as there just wasn’t enough intensity during the match, and quite frankly the hosts looked like they wanted it more.
It’s now a time to reflect on a poor display as a collective, rather than individual errors.
Jose Mourinho’s side could’ve put the tie to bed if they’d got a third goal and gone on the front-foot, but instead they gave Dinamo the glimmer of hope they needed. Credit to the Croatian team for a phenomenal comeback.
