Chris Sutton says Rangers ace is ‘frustrating’, needs to work harder in training

Chris Sutton has told BT Sport’s Highlights Show that Rangers star Alfredo Morelos needs to lose weight, branding the Ibrox ace a “frustration”.

Morelos, 25, is in search of his 100th goal in all competitions for Rangers – but is struggling to score regularly. He has five goals in 16 games this term.

The Colombia international is struggling to rediscover the form that saw him score an enormous 29 goals in 2019-20. On Thursday, he struggled.

While he was unlucky to hit the post against Brondby during Thursday night’s 2-0 Europa League win, Morelos looked off the pace.

He lacked the cutting edge, the on-the-shoulder danger that has seen him shine in a Light Blue shirt since 2017. Sutton has delivered his verdict.

“He’s such a frustration, because he’s such an important player. He’s scored more goals for Rangers than any other in Europe, even Ally McCoist.

“I don’t know if he’s conditioned himself properly. It’s his attitude, he needs to knuckle down, train harder and get himself in the correct condition.”

Sutton bang on in verdict on Rangers striker Morelos

Morelos looked lean in 2019-20, dropping deep and scoring goals. He even created 10 that season, being unpredictable and hard to contain.

In the past two seasons, he is getting easier to stop. Whether it is defenders finding him out, whether he has lost his edge, or his condition.

Morelos looks like he is carrying a bit more than before – and that needs to go if he is to get back to his best. He has Premier League aspirations.

He has been linked with Newcastle of late. But Sutton is right, if he is to rediscover his confidence and form – he needs to improve his condition.
