Ahead of this weekend’s big Liverpool v Manchester United clash, Premier League winner Chris Sutton says Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘must do better’.
The right-back has been below the standards he displayed last season and it has, at times, been noticeable in Liverpool’s play.
Question marks have arisen about ‘Trent’s’ defensive abilities, while going forward, he is not quite creating and laying on the amount of goalscoring opportunities he was last term.
And writing in the Daily Mail ahead of this weekend, Sutton believes he is the one Liverpool mainstay who needs to improve.
“Strangely out of sorts. A very creative full-back, so he is going to give the ball away sometimes, but he has to do better,” Sutton said, before giving Alexander-Arnold a six out of ten for his form this term.
It has been an odd season for the England man. He’s yet to score, and has laid on just two assists. In contrast, last season he managed four goals and a whopping 15 assists in all competitions.
Liverpool, then, will be hoping he is back to his very best for the visit of United this weekend.
TBR View: There’s no doubt about it here, Sutton is bang on
Sutton can often have some wide ranging opinions and splits fanbases but here, you have to say he is bang on.
Alexander-Arnold is nowhere near the level he was last season and it’s impacting Liverpool’s performance levels. He is so important and on his day, probably the best right-back in the league.
The Reds need him firing and back to his best if they’re to retain their title, that’s for certain.
