Chris Sutton says Leigh Griffiths sums up Celtic dressing room, despite goal

Chris Sutton has blasted Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths in his post-match BT Sport analysis of Celtic’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague at Parkhead on Thursday night – claiming his attitude sums up the Hoops dressing room.

Celtic came into the match after suffering a defeat to AC Milan and only managing a draw against Lille – despite being 2-0 up. The odds looked in their favour, with Sparta Prague missing a number of key players.

However, Celtic were smashed. A team lacking in confidence, game plan and devoid of any real belief – the Hoops were annihilated, largely thanks to a hat-trick from Lukas Julis. Ladislav Krejci also scored late on.

Griffiths came off the bench to squeeze home one for Celtic, but in truth – Prague hit the woodwork on numerous occasions and it could have been a lot worse. Sutton lambasted Griffiths, claiming he sums up the dressing room.

“It was one of the most gutless performances from a Celtic team,” Sutton said. “It is a dressing room where you have to question the character of the players. Leigh Griffiths gets his goal, but I look at his attitude.

“A fit Leigh Griffiths is a brilliant option. But he can’t be bothered to get himself fit, and that sums up the Celtic dressing room at the moment. I thought they chucked it. They bottled at the end.”

TBR’s view – Where do Celtic go from here?

Celtic’s primary focus must be 10 in a row. Just one point from a possible nine basically ends their chances of European football after Christmas. Many Hoops fans are of the opinion that Europe doesn’t matter this season.

But it does. For the brand of Celtic, for momentum, financially, it matters. It was a humiliating result for the Scottish champions, and the pressure will be ramped up on Lennon – especially with an international break next week.

A win at Fir Park on Sunday is crucial for Celtic – and for Lennon. It remains to be seen what Lennon will do with £1million (Scotsman) signing Griffiths.
