'He is a goner': Chris Sutton makes big sack claim involving Leeds and 49-year-old manager
BBC pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that Leeds United could force Leicester City into sacking Brendan Rodgers in a few weeks.
The Foxes lost at Bournemouth today as they failed to build on their huge win over Nottingham Forest. Rodgers is already under pressure, after a summer in which they sold Wesley Fofana and failed to really bring in any new faces to spice things up.
And Sutton, writing for the BBC after today’s games, believes defeats against Palace and Leeds in the next two games will see Rodgers sacked.
“Leicester have got Crystal Palace and Leeds. Brendan Rodgers need a couple of big results. They had the chance to sack him before the international break, they didn’t,” Sutton said for the BBC.
“Important win against Forest but they’ve lost against Bournemouth. People regard them as a generous game. Palace at home, Leeds at home – if they lose both of those he is a goner.”
Rodgers has credit in the bank at Leicester after winning the FA Cup but that is starting to wane. With top players like Youri Tielemans and James Maddison still at the club, the former Liverpool coach is expected to be doing better than he is. The Foxes currently sit 19th in the table, with just four points from their opening nine games.
TBR’s View: Leeds Could Be Nail In Rodgers’ Coffin
Jesse Marsch won’t take any pleasure in seeing another PL manager sacked but he’ll be keen on winning against Leicester so in turn might help the process.
Rodgers is under massive pressure to be honest. Two home games in a row could make or break his and Leicester’s season and Sutton makes a good point on the sacking chances here.
Leicester have had a good run under Rodgers and if it comes down to beating Leeds, then there’s probably other, less energetic sides they’d rather take on.
