Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that Arsenal supporters would love to have West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek in their side at the moment – after the Czech star shone against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Soucek, 25, has surpassed expectation since completing a permanent move to the Hammers in the summer. Having initially impressed on loan between January 2020 and last summer, Soucek earned a permanent move having scored three in 13.
Since that permanent £16million move, the 30-time Czech Republic international has scored eight Premier League goals in his 25 appearances this season. He has played every single minute of West Ham’s 2020-21 league campaign.
Sutton has applauded the work in the transfer market done by West Ham to bring Soucek in, and suggests that not only would Arsenal fans love to have Soucek in the side – but he believes Arsenal’s scouting team have been embarrassed by the Hammers.
“Would Arsenal fans like Soucek in their midfield, right now? Of course they would. David Moyes and West Ham had a better eye than every other Premier League club – and the Arsenal’s scouts were sleeping, that’s a fact,” Sutton said.

TBR’s view – Soucek would start for every Premier League side right now
Even Pep Guardiola might be tempted to start Soucek in his Manchester City side, perhaps alongside Fernandinho or in midfield with Kevin De Bruyne as a box-to-box midfielder. Arsenal would love to have Soucek with Thomas Partey.
Liverpool need a Gini Wijnaldum replacement and Soucek would be ideal. His work rate, his personality, his quality and his desire – proven when he instantly got up to defend against Spurs after suffering a cut above his eye – is second to none.
Right now, he is one of the best players in the Premier League. Can the Hammers hold on to him? Time will tell.
