Chris Sutton says £17m Tottenham player may be one of the best in the Premier League now

Guglielmo Vicario has been named as one of the best players in the Premier League so far this season by Chris Sutton.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Sutton was discussing some of Tottenham’s summer signings, and he reckons that Spurs have got it spot on in so many areas this summer.

Sutton, of course, was full of praise for the signings of Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, but he’s also highlighted Vicario as one of the very best players in the Premier League this season.

Vicario one of the best

Sutton shared his verdict on the £17m Italian and his recent showings.

“We saw the recruitment in the summer, Vicario is arguably one of the players of the season so far, Van de Ven I think he’s coming back to fitness as well, those are two really good pieces of business,” Sutton said.

Brilliant

Goalkeepers have to be very special in order to be involved in the Player of the Year conversation, and that’s exactly what Vicario is, special.

The Italian has taken to life in England like a duck to water. He’s been utterly brilliant for Tottenham in every area.

Of course, modern goalkeepers are largely judged by what they do with the ball at their feet, but Vicario’s shot-stopping is also to be admired as one of his biggest strengths.

Indeed, Vicario, unlike other goalkeepers of this era, seems to know that his number one job above anything else is keeping the ball out of the back of the net, and that’s what he’s best at.

Vicario plays with incredible confidence and calmness, and after watching Hugo Lloris make a number of blunders over the past two years, Tottenham fans will love the fact they finally have a goalkeeper between the sticks who is so easy to trust in the biggest games.
