Celtic icon Chris Sutton has ruined Rangers chairman Dave King on Twitter after the Ibrox supremo made a big Old Firm claim as quoted by the Daily Record, following the Gers record season-ticket sales.
Rangers have announced they have sold a record amount of season tickets this summer, totalling an enormous 45,757. That is 300 more than last season, which was also a record. Another 14,000 are on the waiting list.
King reacted to the news that another record amount of season tickets had been sold by the club, which could be contributed to Steven Gerrard’s excellent first season in charge. He wants Rangers to be the country’s “premier club”.
“You have set a new high and I am immensely proud to be chairman of this great club. Let’s continue to do the right things and project Rangers as the country’s premier club and again, thank you for your wonderful support.”
Celtic legend Sutton reacted on Twitter with a somewhat sarcastic Tweet, by reminding King that the premier club remains to be Celtic after eight consecutive league titles and a treble treble.
TBR’s view – Should Rangers rise make Sutton nervous?
Rangers impressed under Gerrard last season, finishing second and reaching the Europa League group stages. They also beat Celtic twice, and Neil Lennon will be feeling the Gers breathing down Celtic’s necks.
This summer could be crucial as to who goes the distance. Right now, Rangers are in the driving seat as they look set to complete their seventh signing of the summer in Joe Aribo. Celtic are yet to make one.
That alone should be leaving Celtic nervous, but the growing momentum – highlighted by the ticket sales – should given Rangers even more confidence going into the 2019-20 campaign.
