Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to react to Rangers’s performance during their emphatic 4-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday, with the pundit lauding Jermain Defoe’s display.
Steven Gerrard’s men would have been wary of being complacent after their brilliant and emotional win in midweek. And it did appear that they were not at their best as the game remained goalless going into half-time.

But Rangers went through the gears during the second-half. Alfredo Morelos broke the deadlock with a thumping finish two minutes after the interval.
Connor Goldson then doubled the lead just after the hour-mark with a well-placed header. There was then some controversy as the home side looked to set up a tense finish.

Steven Davis produced two miraculous stops on the line to deny Tommy Wright’s side. They were adamant the second attempt had crossed the line, but nothing was given – replays appeared to show that Davis had prevented the ball going in – and Defoe put the game to bed down the other end of the pitch moments later.
And it was Defoe who completed the rout. He had been offside when he received the ball in the box. But the Englishman produced another smart finish to ensure that Rangers kept the pressure on the Scottish Premiership leaders.
And Sutton was full of praise for Defoe – who only came on with just over 10 minutes remaining – as he assessed Rangers’s performance.
