Chris Sutton believes that Celtic only have themselves to blame after they exited the Europa League on Thursday night.
Neil Lennon’s team went into the second leg against Copenhagen off the back of a 1-1 away draw, which left them in a decent position and favourites to progress at Parkhead.
But the Bhoys were beaten 3-1 on the night and that leaves Rangers as the only Scottish side in the pot for the Europa League last-16 tie.
Michael Santos put visitors Copenhagen in front in the tie with his goal early in the second-half, but the contest appeared to be heading for extra-time when Odsonne Edouard scored an outrageous chipped penalty in the 83rd minute.
There was another twist though when Danish side responded with two quick-fire goals through Pep Biel and Dame N’Doye to dump Celtic out of the competition 4-2 on aggregate.
Pundit and former Celtic striker Sutton expressed his disappointment on Twitter following the result, but stated they did enough over the tie to progress
TBR’s View:
There were individual errors at the back for Celtic which massively let them down against Copenhagen, something that manager Lennon need to address.
Meanwhile, they had more than enough clear chances over the two legs to pull away in the tie and in the end they left themselves open to Copenhagen snatching it late on.
There is going to be a massive comedown from a disappointing result that was unexpected, but Celtic need to try focus on their dominance in Scotland and they can still take a clean sweep with the domestic awards again.
