Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has told French outlet Telefoot that the ball is in Arsenal’s court when discussing if he will sign a new contract at The Emirates – and Chris Sutton has responded by claiming he is “unhappy”.
Aubameyang, 30, is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the month. It may mean that this summer is the only window in which the Gunners can bring in some cash for his signature.
Mikel Arteta spoke in a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Manchester City and stated that he is hopeful a new contract can be arranged for Aubameyang. The Gunners skipper stated the ball is in Arsenal’s court.
“We have had exchanges with the club, for a few months. They know very well why nothing has happened. They have the keys. Up to them to do their work. Then we will see how things go,” Aubameyang told Telefoot, as per GFFN.
Sutton discussed his comments on BBC Radio Five Live’s Monday Night club alongside Arsenal legend Ian Wright, and claimed that Aubameyang is “unhappy” – and believes the attacker should be looking to leave the club.
“He’s clearly unhappy because he didn’t have to say, what he said,” Sutton said. “If he wants to win things, with the greatest respect, he wouldn’t want to sign with Arsenal again would he? There will be other suitors who are after him. He’s 31, he can’t afford to hang around at Arsenal. There’s always turmoil at Arsenal.”

TBR’s view – Sutton has it bang on
If Aubameyang was given the chance to sign for Arsenal, in his current condition and age, surely the striker would opt against a move to the Gunners if he holds any ambition to add to his trophy cabinet before retiring.
So, why would he renew his contract at The Emirates? Arsenal are some way off finishing in the top four and have an outside chance of reaching the Champions League places – even if Manchester City are banned from Europe.
But is Champions League qualification even enough. Aubameyang has the quality to play for one of Europe’s best sides, challenging for League titles. He must leave this summer, if he wants to do that.
