Chris Sutton has given his verdict on the news that Arsenal have now lodged a complaint over the rough treatment Bukayo Saka receives from opponents.
Bukayo Saka is unquestionably one of most exciting players in the Premier League. He has been the shining light in an underwhelming campaign for the Gunners’ attacking players this season, contributing six goals and six assists in the Premier League.
According to the Daily Mail, Saka was the third most fouled player in the top-flight in 2023, behind Jordan Ayew and Bruno Guimaraes. And Arsenal believe that the referees should be doing more to protect the 22-year-old.
Chris Sutton criticises Arsenal over Bukayo Saka complaint
As reported by the Daily Mail, Arsenal have lodged a complaint to the PGMOL. The Gunners believe that there should generally be stronger punishments much sooner when Saka is on the receiving end of a heavy challenge.

But speaking on It’s All Kicking Off , Chris Sutton believes that Saka will not be at all happy with the Arsenal hierarchy for the action they have taken.
“I think Bukayo Saka will be a bit embarrassed about the situation. It’s a compliment if anything if players want to get close to you and kick you, I don’t know what they are thinking of there and where they are going with that. Ridiculous,” he said.
Gunners may have done attacker more harm than good
It is a bizarre course of action from Arsenal. Of course, they are unlikely to be happy with some of the challenges which come Saka’s way. But, as Sutton notes, opposition defender probably look at the youngster and think that they will need to be a little more physical to edge their battles.
Saka has the potential to be a world-class player. It is remarkable what he has already achieved in his career. And he is probably going to be at the top of the game for the next decade, if not longer.
Arsenal may feel that unless something changes, he may be denied the chance to reach that level. But some will surely feel that what they have really done is paint a target on his back by asking for him to be protected more.
