Chris Sutton raves about out-on-loan Tottenham star after midweek display

Cameron Carter-Vickers produced another brilliant display for Celtic while on loan from Tottenham this week – earning praise from Chris Sutton.

Carter-Vickers, 23, joined Celtic on loan from Tottenham in the summer. Celtic needed a defender, Carter-Vickers needed a move. Celtic obliged.

He has since gone on to make 13 appearances for Celtic – scoring two goals and helping Celtic keep six clean sheets. His Spurs contract ends in 2022.

A USA international, it is quickly becoming clear that Ange Postecoglou makes Carter-Vickers his first-choice defender. Carl Starfelt is error-prone.

The Swede has struggled since his move to Parkhead. Christopher Jullien remains injured, Stephen Welsh played on Thursday night.

A 3-2 win over Ferencvaros on Thursday proved pivotal for Celtic’s Europa League hopes – and Sutton heaped praise on the £20k-a-week (Spotrac) ace.

“Someone who is really impressing me at the moment, is Carter-Vickers.  We saw him have a hopeless game in the Conference League for Spurs.

“I worried about him, he was a last-minute signing. But I do think he has really stepped up. His leadership skills, he reads the game, aggressive.”

Sutton on Carter-Vickers: Celtic need Tottenham ace permanently

For a while now, Celtic have struggled with their options at centre-back. Last season, Shane Duffy did not suit the Hoops and it hindered Celtic.

The Hoops play the ball out from the back and when attacking, camp in the opponents half. They need quick, ball-playing centre-backs.

Carter-Vickers is that, but he can also mould into a war-like defender that puts his body on the line when needed – especially in Europe.

The USA ace is likely to be available on the cheap given his contract situation. Celtic must take advantage, sooner rather than later.
