The Premier League title is the big talking point at the moment, but the race for the top four is just as enthralling.

Indeed, both Aston Villa and Tottenham are fighting for that final Champions League spot, while Manchester United are also still lurking in the background.

So, who is going to secure fourth place? Well, it’s tough to call it at the moment, but speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has had a go at predicting who will finish in that final traditional Champions League qualifying position.

Sutton says that he’s backing Aston Villa, claiming that the Midlands club are the team in the box seat at the moment.

Chris Sutton says Aston Villa will finish fourth

Sutton responded when asked who will finish fourth.

“Villa are in the box seat aren’t they? I think it will be Villa. They’re my old team, the biggest team in Birmingham,” Sutton said.

Hard to back against Aston Villa

It’s really hard to disagree with what Sutton says here.

Villa have been fantastic all season long, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

Ollie Watkins has turned into a genuinely world-class striker over the past 12 months or so, and he alone could carry Villa to fourth.

Tottenham have been brilliant in patches, but there is a level of inconsistency there that often sneaks in that could cost Spurs between now and the end of the season.

In the end, it may not even matter who finishes fourth. If all goes to plan in Europe for England’s top clubs, fifth place will be enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but, at the moment, both of these teams need to give their all to finish fourth as that is the only way they can absolutely guarantee they’ll be in next season’s premier European competition.
