Chris Sutton predicts what would happen if Arsenal played Man City in the Champions League

Arsenal played Manchester City this weekend, and that may not be the final meeting between the two sides this term.

Indeed, should both English clubs get through in the Champions League, they will face off in the semi-finals of the competition.

After Sunday’s bore-fest, we’re not sure we’d like to see Arsenal vs City in the Champions League, but speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage have been discussing the idea of these two sides facing off in Europe.

Arsenal vs Man City in the Champions League

Savage and Sutton discussed the idea of these two sides facing off, and Sutton fancies yet another bore draw if they play each other again.

“Hypothetically, this is one for you Chris, if City faced Arsenal in the semi-finals, would you fancy it? Chris what do you think?” Savage asked.

“I would fancy a draw, a bore draw based on this game,” Sutton said.

“I tell you what I think honestly. There’s something amiss from City this season. It’s a good point for Arsenal, but what a great game for Liverpool. The goal difference is different, but Liverpool have this habit of winning games, and Salah is now getting back to his best.”

Arsenal and Man City cancel each other out

We can understand why Sutton is saying this.

Arsenal and Man City seem to know how to cancel each other out at this point. On Sunday, the game was truly a drab affair, while the first meeting between the two sides this season was very similar until a late deflected goal decided the day in Arsenal’s favour.

This isn’t shaping up to be the most exciting rivalry of the Premier League era, and as much as these two teams are very good at what they do, we can’t say we’re thrilled by the idea of watching another 180 minutes of City vs Arsenal.
