Chris Sutton predicts Gianluca Scamacca will score for West Ham against Liverpool

Chris Sutton has claimed that West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca will do something that even Erling Haaland hasn’t – score against Liverpool this season.

The Hammers take on Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield tomorrow in what will surely be a difficult game. The Reds picked up a spectacular victory over Manchester City on Sunday, and they’ll be looking to go on a good run now.

Can West Ham and Scamacca stop them? Sutton doesn’t think so.

Chris Sutton predicts Gianluca Scamacca will score for West Ham against Liverpool

West Ham are unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, winning two of them. However, they are 10th in the table at the moment, and refereeing decisions haven’t gone their way at all this season.

The game against Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow could prove to be West Ham’s toughest test yet, and Sutton does not believe they’ll win the game. However, he has predicted that Scamacca will score a goal for the Irons.

He wrote in his column on BBC Sport: “I have taken a lot of flak from Liverpool fans recently. I love it when supporters come out afterwards, like they did after beating Manchester City, and are wise after the event, but then basically admit that, beforehand, they were feeling along the same lines as my prediction.

“Still, you couldn’t fail to be impressed with the way Liverpool played against City, especially the back-line who were excellent.

“There was a period in the second half where the crowd really got up and backed them and Anfield was bouncing again.

“I think they will continue in the right direction here, helped by the fact West Ham are so stretched at the back, although I do fancy Gianluca Scamacca to grab a goal for the Hammers.”

Scamacca has really impressed up front for West Ham.

Since his £35.5 million (Sky Sports) move from Italian side Sassuolo in the summer, he has scored six times in all competitions. He averages a goal every 115 minutes, which is a better record than the likes of Gabriel Jesus (182), Mo Salah (128) and even Harry Kane (125).

The Italian is settling in really well at West Ham under David Moyes. He’s still only 23 as well, which means he will only get better in the coming months and years.

West Ham will definitely go into the game against Liverpool as the underdogs, but if Scamacca can somehow win them the game, he will become a much bigger hero than he already is.
