Chris Sutton makes bold Darwin Nunez goalscoring prediction for Liverpool

Chris Sutton has made a prediction about Liverpool star Darwin Nunez – but he claims this will not come true when they take on Brighton on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have had a disappointing season so far. They have just 28 points on board after 17 fixtures, which is a really poor return considering how good they’ve been over the last few years.

Nunez missing chances up front is one of the factors.

Chris Sutton says Darwin Nunez will score five goals in a single game for Liverpool

Liverpool signed Nunez from Benfica for a club-record £85 million last summer (Sky Sports).

That is a lot of money, but the Uruguayan had an outstanding season in Portugal last term, and many expected him to hit the ground running.

However, Nunez has had his struggles at Anfield. He has missed 15 big chances since the start of the season – more than any other player in the entire division (Official Premier League website).

That has given rise to a lot of criticism for Nunez, but he is still getting in the right areas, which is a huge positive. That’s why Sutton thinks he’s going to run riot against a club one day – but not against Brighton this weekend.

The pundit wrote on BBC Sport: “Roberto De Zerbi’s first game as Brighton boss saw the Seagulls go to Anfield and draw 3-3 in an absolute thriller. Liverpool have not really got much better since then – they still look shaky at the back and they still waste a lot of chances.

“One day Darwin Nunez will score five in the same game, but it won’t be this weekend.”

Nunez has missed way too many chances for Liverpool this season, and if you’re a Reds fan, that can be extremely infuriating.

However, 10 goals in 15 starts is really not a bad record for a 23-year-old playing his first-ever season in England.

The big positive about Nunez is that he is getting into excellent positions. His movement is absolutely fantastic, and that is a great sign for any striker – even if they’re currently not scoring too many goals.

If Nunez keeps doing that, goals will come, and Sutton’s bold prediction may also come true one day.
