Chris Sutton praised Aston Villa after their win over Everton on Friday night in the Premier League and gave midfielder John McGinn a special mention.
The Midlands club picked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 home victory in their third game of the campaign.
Wesley Moraes opened the scoring in the first-half with a decent finish into the bottom corner, while Anwar El Ghazi netted in stoppage time at the end of the game.
McGinn supplied the assist for El Ghazi’s late strike with his defence-splitting pass.
The 24-year-old central midfielder scored in the opening day defeat to Tottenham and is one of the main goal threats for Dean Smith’s side.
Him and Jack Grealish are box-to-box midfielder that provide the engine room for the team, something they did to great effect against Everton.
Sutton, who has the briefest of spells at Villa as a player, picked out McGinn following his busy display on Friday.
“Great atmosphere and great win for Villa… John McGinn outstanding once again,” Sutton wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Villa should be delighted to get their first points on the board of the Premier League season and the opening three games have suggested they are going to be competitive in the top-flight.
After back-to-back defeats to start the campaign in games they had decent spells in, it was vital that they got a result.
The Midlands giants have the potential to make Villa Park a fortress and it’s going to be crucial to keeping them out of any relegation trouble.
Smith can certainly be pleased with what he’s seen from his group, as they defended resiliently against Everton and also showed real quality going forward at times.
McGinn is someone with a tremendous work-rate all over the park and crucially he’s got an attacking edge to his game
The Scotland international has taken to the Premier League so comfortably and he’s one to keep an eye out on.
