Chris Sutton has told BBC R5L’s Monday Night Club that Unai Emery will be tempted with a move to Newcastle United – from Spanish club Villarreal.
Emery, 49, is currently shining at Villarreal – clocking up 69 games as manager. He masterminded a Europa League final win over Man United.
The ex-Arsenal gaffer struggled to fill the boots of Arsene Wenger – but his spell in charge is now seen as a good one, with Arsenal in a transition.
Impressing at Arsenal, then, and now Villarreal – Emery could be on his way back to England. The Mail claim Emery is on Newcastle’s radar.
It is believed Newcastle would have to pay £7million to release Emery from his current Villarreal contract – which expires in the summer of 2023.
Sutton believes Newcastle would prove tempting for Emery. He believes the budget and potential wages would be enough to convince the Spaniard.

“With the money, they could challenge for the title in the next few seasons. That is the gamble. Unai Emery might think it is a gamble worth taking.
“A manager that was laughed out of Arsenal, you know what an opportunity this is – a point to prove,” Sutton continued, on Monday night.
Sutton on Emery: Spaniard would be a brilliant Newcastle addition
Somewhat of a coup for the Toon, if they could convince the current Europa League champion to swap Villarreal for Newcastle in the coming weeks.
£7million is a drop in the ocean for the Saudi-backed consortium. While Steve Bruce remains, so does the ghost of Mike Ashley – it needs to change.
Getting Bruce out of the club seems inevitable, but a move for Emery would be a stunning move. An excellent man manager, and good in the market.
If Newcastle can sack Bruce for Emery, it would be an enormous coup for The Toon. Time will tell, but Sutton is right, it is very tempting.
