Chris Sutton delivers instant reaction to Rangers winning Scottish Cup

Glasgow Rangers bounced back from their Europa League heartbreak to win the 2021-22 Scottish Cup.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox charges ran out 2-0 winners at Hampden Park to lift the trophy for the first time in 13 years.

Rangers were made to work hard for their victory, with Hearts taking them to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes.

However, the Light Blues managed to get over the line thanks to goals from substitutes Ryan Jack and Scott Wright.

Jack opened the scoring three minutes into extra time with a powerful effort from outside the box.

And Wright finished off a devastating counter-attack in the 96th minute.

He rifled a precise, angled shot across Jambos keeper Craig Gordon and into the corner of the net.

Rangers finished a long and arduous 2021-22 campaign with silverware.

It was the Gers’ 66th match of the season, and the fourth of their past 11 to go to extra time.

Chris Sutton reacted shortly after the final whistle, praising Rangers’ “good win” and lauded their players for showing “plenty of guts”.

Nonetheless, the Celtic-leaning pundit couldn’t help from having a bit of a dig at his former side’s big rivals:

The game also saw Allan McGregor replace Jon McLaughlin as a late substitute.

It suggested that the veteran goalkeeper and Ibrox icon will be retiring at the end of the season.
