Chris Sutton has reacted to Jeremie Frimpong’s reportedly imminent move to Bayer Leverkusen on his official Twitter account – by suggesting the £11.5million fee Celtic are to receive is a lot, given his recent performances.
Frimpong, 20, has clocked up 30 appearances in all competitions this season – having a hand in six goals. But with the Hoops falling way behind Rangers, planning could be about to be put in place for next season, writing 10 in a row off.
However, Lennon has confirmed in a press conference that Frimpong is abroad discussing a move with a European club. The Record have since reported that that club is Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen – with a fee worth £11.5million.
Celtic icon Sutton responded to the news that Frimpong is about to be sold by Celtic to Leverkusen, and reckons the figure for the Netherlands youth international is quite high – given that he has been somewhat below par this season.
His eight-word verdict, in true Sutton style: “That’s a lot based on this season’s performances.”
£11.5 Frimpong to Leverkusen… that’s a lot based on this season’s performances…

TBR’s view – Sutton is bang on
Frimpong is a good player. Defensively, he is weak and has been found out at times – mostly in the 2-2 draw with Hibernian. But he is excellent going forward and on the right of a back five, he would be perfect.
However, the ex-Man City star’s form has not been of the level that saw him initially shine when he first broke into Neil Lennon’s side. His dip in form has coincided with that of Celtic. So to get £11.5million for his signature is stunning business.
