Chris Sutton has ripped into Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, who he’s not been impressed with since he joined the club back in July.
The Bhoys signed the shot-stopper for £4.5million (Scottish Sun) from AEK Athens in the summer and he’s had a turbulent start to his Parkhead career.
He’s recently been axed from the XI for the league matches and has struggled and played in back-to-back defeats in cup competitions.
Pundit and ex-Celtic forward Sutton was left fuming with Barkas’ latest display this week, as he played in the 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in the Europa League group stages.
The 26-year-old has been making eye-catching mistakes in the Celtic net, but at the same time offers very little presence in the backline and it’s hard to remember him making a jaw-dropping save.
“Vasilis Barkas has not made a solitary save of note since he signed for Celtic,” Sutton told the Daily Record.
“While the AC No.1 was flying across his goal to deny Christie, the Greek was standing as you would in bus shelter waiting for the No.63 as Milan’s free-kick went past him.
“It was criminal. I’m not a goalkeeper, but I do know that you organise a wall and when you do, that covers one side of the goal and you cover the other. You do not get beaten on your side.
“Barkas built a wall and then hid behind it. It was appalling stuff. He just doesn’t make saves. If he has done since he’s signed, I’ve missed them.”

TBR’s View:
Aged 26, Barkas is still a relatively young goalkeeper that still has time on his side to improve, but unfortunately Celtic can’t afford to wait right now and need a top number one in net right now.
The Greece international appears to be by behind teammate Scott Bain at the minute in the pecking order, who is another goalkeeper at the club failing to inspire any confidence this season.
Neil Lennon’s side have turned from a defensively solid to extremely vulnerable in the space of half a year and perhaps the reigning Scottish champions need to invest in that crucial area of the pitch in the January window.
