Chris Sutton delivers brutally honest verdict on under-fire Tottenham star

Chris Sutton has told BT Sport that Harry Winks looks a “shadow of his normal self” after Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Vitesse Arnhem.

Winks, 25, has found himself way down the pecking order at Tottenham this season – managing just 61 minutes of Premier League football.

Oliver Skipp returned from a loan at Norwich City and is now first choice in a two-man pivot alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

It has left Winks on the bench, playing in what is effectively a second-string in the Conference League. He will likely be benched on Sunday.

Speaking at half-time during Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Vitesse, Sutton tore into England international Winks – questioning what has happened to him.

Is PSGs Business Model Destined To Fail?

“There’s a lot of players there that don’t look like they want to be there. For Winks, his Tottenham career is now in the balance,” Sutton told BT Sport.

“Does he want to be there? Even if he wants away, show suitors what you can do. He looks a shadow of himself, he hasn’t shown for the ball.”

Sutton on Winks: Does Tottenham star have a future in North London?

After almost 200 games for Tottenham, it is probably time Winks leaves Spurs. A top midfielder on his day, but that day does not come often.

The signing of Hojbjerg has seen him drop out of the side. Indeed, a lack of game time has reduced his momentum in a Spurs shirt.

He needs to be playing week in, week out. He is good enough to be able to do that for a club that are in the Premier League, but not at Spurs’ level.

A move is needed. The Times claimed in the summer that Villa and Everton wanted a £40million-rated Winks – but that his price tag was too high.
