Chris Sutton has noticed what Jesse Marsch does every time Leeds United lose a game in the Premier League.

The Whites played brilliantly against Arsenal at Elland Road on Sunday. They dominated the league leaders in the second half, but sadly, they couldn’t get anything from the game.

Marsch, however, was delighted with how his team played.

In the second half on Sunday, Leeds maintained 61% of the possession, completed 90 passes more than Arsenal, had eight shots at goal and created three big chances. (Sofascore)

Thanks to Aaron Ramsdale’s heroics in goal, the Gunners held on and took all three points back to London. Marsch raved about his side after the game and claimed they were better than Arsenal.

The American is not wrong at all, but Sutton has noticed something here. The pundit claims that Marsch constantly lavishes praise on his team every time they suffer a defeat. He says that people who watch Marsch talk may even believe Leeds won the game even though they didn’t.

In his column on BBC Sport, he wrote: “Leeds boss Jesse Marsch talks his team up in defeat like no other manager. If you listened to him, you would think they had won every game.

“But I like their playing style and it deserves greater rewards.”

Marsch does talk his players up after every game, especially when they don’t win, and that’s not a bad thing at all.

The last thing a manager should ever do is come out and throw his players under the bus. It’s their job to defend the players when they play badly, and Marsch, like most other managers, follows this.

Leeds should consider themselves really unlucky to not come away with at least a point on Sunday. Arsenal could barely get out of their own half, and the Whites are definitely the side who have caused the most problems to the Premier League leaders.

Marsch’s men take on Leicester City on Thursday and after zero wins in the league since the 21st of August, they will be hoping to bounce back.
