Chris Sutton claims Tottenham can’t lose faith in Mauricio Pochettino

Chris Sutton has predicted that Tottenham will make a revival with Mauricio Pochettino in charge and doesn’t believe that the manager should come under question during a difficult time on the pitch.

Spurs are going through a tough period at present that means they sit 11th in the Premier League table after the opening 10 rounds of fixture.

The North London club are eight points off the top four right now with plenty of work to do, while they have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and were embarrassed 7-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stages.

They were beaten 2-1 away to Liverpool at the weekend and play their Merseyside neighbours Everton on Sunday in a high pressure fixture.

Pundit Sutton believes that the source of the problem isn’t manager Pochettino and that he can turn it around.

“They are in a bad place at the moment. Will they come again under Pochettino? I think they will,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“They have too many good payers, but there are too many good players at the moment that are simply underperforming. They are leaking goals, something that under Pochettino’s tenure they haven’t seemed to do.

“The club has improved as a whole, they have been pretty much immaculate. For the sake of a couple of dodgy months you can’t lose faith in your manger and what he’s done for the club.”

TBR’s View:

Spurs do have too many players that have seen their standards slip and there is no doubting that individually they have to take responsibility.

But the issue for Pochettino is that it’s not just the start of this campaign that has been poor, as reaching a Champions League final last season papered over the cracks.

Spurs have lost 12 Premier League games during 2019 so far and there has been a significant decline in their level of performances.

Argentinian boss Pochettino needs a response from his players quickly if they are to maintain their spot as top four regulars in the Premier League.
