Chris Sutton believes selling Olivier Ntcham would be ‘madness’ from Celtic

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been discussing the club’s current transfer situation and has made it clear that the club would be underprepared if they did not add to Mo Elyounoussi in the transfer in column this summer.

Sutton, writing in his column for the Daily Record made it clear that Celtic need to improve in attack, owing to Leigh Griffiths’ issues. He also believes the club need another left-back, with Boli Bolingoli not good enough. Another centre-back should also be a priority.

He also made it clear that Celtic need another goalkeeper, with Scott Bain an able deputy but ‘not a trophy winner’,

Perhaps one of his more interesting takes revolved around the Celtic midfield. As far as Sutton is concerned, there is little in the way of improvement that Neil Lennon can do in that department. However, he made it clear that nobody should be sold, including the heavily targeted Olivier Ntcham.

“Midfield is good so long as no one leaves,” he wrote. “For example, it would be madness to sell Olivier Ntcham, despite the interest in him. He’s a valuable member of the set-up.”

The French midfielder has attracted plenty of interest in recent weeks. Southampton and West Ham have previously been linked with a move for the player, who is currently earning £35,000-a-week (Scottish Sun) at Celtic.

Of course, there was some talk over a potential swap deal with Southampton involving Ntcham and goalkeeper solution Fraser Forster.

But Sutton is clearly of the belief that the 24-year-old should be considered indispensable this summer and it is hard to argue that fact, considering his ability to change a game.

Time will tell if Celtic do end up managing to keep hold of the midfielder into next season.
