Daniel Sturridge is a free agent after Liverpool confirmed there will be no renewal to his expiring contract this summer. The England international has struggled with injury troubles over the past few seasons and his future will now be away from Anfield.
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been discussing his future on BBC 5 Live Sport. The 46-year-old stated his belief that Aston Villa would be a great place for Sturridge to revitalise his flagging career.

Sutton, who had a brief stint at Villa toward the end of his playing career, admits a pay cut would be necessary but believes Aston Villa could be perfect for Sturridge.
“He’s going to have to take a great drop in wages. He just needs to play…
“The best thing for him is to find a club and knuckle down. Maybe a Villa, or someone like that, and play games. Get that real smile back on his face.
“I think that’s what he needs to do, get 30,40 games under his belt (but) I’m not too sure he can do it anymore.”
On paper, it is certainly a move that makes sense. Aston Villa need a new striker with Tammy Abraham departing the club at the end of his loan deal.
It is also important to remember that Sturridge is a Birmingham lad. The 29-year-old was even with the Aston Villa academy as a youngster and a hometown return could be perfect for him at this stage of his career.
On the other hand, Aston Villa are trying to move away from signing players of Sturridge’s ilk. Instead, the focus is likely to be on younger talent with the potential to grow with the club as Aston Villa aim to establish themselves back in the Premier League.
So a deal still seems to be somewhat unlikely. However, whilst he remains a free agent, a move to Villa Park might always be a rumour.
