Tony Watt has returned to the Scottish Premiership to join his fifth Scottish club in the form of Motherwell, signing a contract until the end of the season – prompting reaction from Chris Sutton and many Celtic fans.
Watt, 26, is now set to represent his 12th professional club after coming through the ranks at Airdrieonians before moving to Celtic – where he acored eight goals in 34 appearances. He has since played in England, Belgium and Bulgaria.
Lierse and Standard Liege of Belgium, Charlton, Blackburn and Cardiff of England, Airdrieonians, Celtic, Hearts and St. Johnstone of Scotland and CSKA Sofia of Belgium are his previous 11 clubs. Now, he is hoping to find success with his twelfth.
The one-time Scotland international has put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season, and will be hoping to add to his 10 goals in Scottish Premiership football for Stephen Robinson’s side. He posted on Twitter after a deal was confirmed.
Watt – who is adored by Celtic fans for scoring the goal that saw the Hoops beat Barcelona 2-1 at Celtic Park in November 2012 – was a free agent after leaving Sofia in January on a free transfer, where he scored three goals in 18 appearances.
Celtic legend Chris Sutton reacted to Watt’s move on Twitter, while plenty of Hoops fans responded to Watt’s post. Many congratulated their former player on finding a new club, while others teased that he has “more clubs than Tiger Woods”.
