Leicester City fell short in their EFL Cup semi-final after a late goal from Trezeguet saw Aston Villa advance to the final at Wembley.

The Foxes could not find their way past an inspired Orjan Nyland for much of the game and the result was Brendan Rodgers’ men coming up short in a 2-1 loss, 3-2 on aggregate.

The result caught the eye of former Celtic and Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton, who appeared to have a dig at Brendan Rodgers in the process.

Rodgers left Celtic last season in order to take up the reins at Leicester and has turned the Foxes into genuine top four contenders during his time at the King Power Stadium.

However, Sutton seemed to suggest the lack of a cup final might have Rodgers wishing he had remained at Celtic Park.

TBR’s View

Undoubtedly, when it comes to silverware, Rodgers would have been better off remaining at Celtic.

The Leicester boss won seven trophies during his time in Glasgow before deciding he wanted to return to English football with the Foxes.

Sutton was a big critic of that decision to leave Celtic, believing Rodgers was leaving for a smaller club.

However, it was clear Rodgers decided it was time for a fresh challenge and most Celtic fans have surely now moved past the Rodgers-era as Neil Lennon continues to guide them to success. Indeed, in Europe, it seems that Celtic have even improved under his management.

Time to leave Rodgers in the Celtic past.
