Chris Sutton admits Rangers ‘deserved more’ from Old Firm cup final defeat

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be proud of the Ibrox side’s performance despite losing.

Celtic have continued their silverware winning streak against Old Firm rivals Rangers in the Scottish League Cup. A solitary goal from defender Christopher Jullien ensured Celtic won 1-0 and made it 10 domestic trophies in a row for the Bhoys.

For Rangers, however, they will feel it was something of a missed opportunity.

The English goalkeeper was in sensational form, making several outstanding saves to deny Rangers throughout the game. He also stopped Alfredo Morelos’s penalty as Rangers will need to wait for their next opportunity to bring silverware back to Ibrox.

It would take the most hardened Celtic fan not to admit that Rangers deserved more from the game. In fact, those were the exact words of such a Celtic supporter.

Chris Sutton, who played for the Bhoys, took to Twitter after the game to admit Rangers were the better team.

For Rangers fans there is encouragement to take from the game. Gerrard has taken the side closer to Celtic’s level then they have been for many years even if, at the moment, they do still seem to be just slightly off their pace.

But next time, Rangers will hope Forster is not in such outstanding form. Because if that was the case today, Rangers fans would be celebrating a League Cup trophy triumph.
